For Filipinos abroad weighing a home purchase back home, this week's news centers on a government-backed event that could make financing easier even from a distance. Here's what it means if you're managing property plans from outside the Philippines.

50,000 Homes and Discounted Financing at the National Housing Expo

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and Pag-IBIG Fund are gathering more than 80 partner developers to showcase around 50,000 housing units at the 2nd National Housing Expo, set for October 19 and 20 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. The event falls under the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program, which pairs bigger loan limits with lower interest rates and closer ties to developers. Buyers can find Pag-IBIG Acquired Assets discounted by as much as 30 percent, a 3 percent subsidized rate for socialized housing, and promotional rates of 4.5 and 5.75 percent for pricier homes available through the end of 2026, with loan amounts reaching ₱10 million for qualified borrowers.

Notably for overseas-based members, Pag-IBIG has confirmed that OFWs who meet the qualifications can tap into these same financing options and developer incentives being featured at the expo — meaning the deals on display aren't limited to buyers physically in the Philippines. According to BusinessWorld, interested members should check their eligibility ahead of the two-day event to take advantage of the promotional rates before they expire.
